Aftercare

Aftercare looks different for every client, from every artist! Please read over the following recommended general aftercare instructions that we have found to be the best practices for us.  Ink or Dye Studio provides extensive written aftercare instructions sent directly to your email address after filling out your consent form!  If you have any questions or concerns about your healing process, please do not hesitate to contact myself or the shop directly.

The First Few Days

Your tattoo is considered a fresh, open wound for the first 3-4 days of the healing process. Wash at least twice a day with clean hands and a non-scented foaming soap.  Once dry, follow with a thin layer of healing ointment such as Aquaphor (no antibacterial ointments or heavy healing butters).  Do not over moisturize your tattoo!

Healing Process

Once your tattoo begins to scab, switch your ointment step from above to a non-scented, light lotion. Repeat the wash and lotion process for approximately 2-3 weeks until fully healed. While it is scabbing, it will start to get itchy!  It is important not to pick or scratch at the tattoo to avoid damaging the skin further.

Special Attention

Avoid sunlight exposure and soaking your tattoo in any bodies of water (including a bathtub) for the time it is healing.  Do not use anything abrasive over the area such as a washcloth, razor, et cetera.  Avoid area contact with any pets or bodily fluids, including sweat.  Do your best to avoid workout sessions at the minimum for the first week while it is still an open wound.  Do not apply makeup, spray tans, perfumes, et cetera over the tattoo. Avoid wearing tight and restrictive clothing over your tattoo.
